Gaby Maamary
Conservator of Cultural Heritage, Art Historian, Art Critic
Born in 1962 in Lebanon, Gaby Maamary’s immense academic and professional experience of over 30 years crafted his status as an art historian, art critic, visual artist, conservator of cultural heritage and an expert in the technology of art and pigment extraction.
His academic studies began in 1983 as he started attending classes at the USEK university. In 1988 he obtained a Master degree in Interior Architecture from the Faculty of Fine Arts and in 1999 a Post-graduate vocational qualification in Sacred Arts from the faculty of theology. Attracted by the conservation of cultural heritage, he attained, in 2001, a certificate in the Restoration of Artworks from La Maison d’Antioche. Starting 2001 he attended workshops, took part in international projects and joined forces with some reputed figures in the field from Cyprus, Greece, France, Egypt, Germany & Japan. In 2004 he traveled to Roussillon, France, to study with Claude Yvel the secret techniques of Renaissance paintings and the extraction of pigments at the Conservatoire Okhra. In 2009, Maamary registered a Ph.D. in the History of Art at INHA, Paris IV, Sorbonne.
His professional experience stands on three main axis: Higher Education, Conservation and Art. former Assistant Professor at ALBA/UOB, his Academic teaching career in art, the history of art, of architecture and of furniture in prestigious universities; namely USEK, the Lebanese University, NDU, LAU, and Saint-Paul Institut
he participated in numerous colloquiums in museums, academic and scientific institutions in Lebanon, Germany, Cyprus, England, France, Egypt, Jordan, and Japan.
Between 2004 and 2010, he teamed up with the Japanese archeological mission of Nara University for the study of wall paintings for the conservation of the Roman necropolis in Tyre. Between 2006 and 2009, Maamary represented the University of Balamand as a researcher in the framework of “InfrArtSonic”, a European commission project for the Development of a Novel and Integrated Portable Non-Destructive Analysis System for the Documentation of Artworks. His interventions and consultancy tasks were requested in both public and ecclesiastic sectors in the Arab world and in Europe. His portfolio comprises the conservation of paintings and icons dating as far as the 14th century.

We are convinced that art centers should flourish in Lebanon on all its territories. This cultural endeavor relies basically on individual and group efforts and good will. No Art center, as singular it may be, can stands by itself. Therefore, Art Nub Beirut aims for a collaborative enterprise with similar cultural actions, professional renowned artists, art instructors and cultural heritage experts.

The workshops are open to everyone aged 16 and above and at all skill levels, from beginners to experienced artists. We also welcome individuals with physical abilities and disabilities.
Participants are expected to bring their own materials, which are specified in each workshop description. The materials often include pencils, brushes, acrylic paints, and sketchbooks.
